Weekend getaways for the family not far from Washington DC.? - family weekend getaways

We are doing on the lookout for some fun with our children. Our children are) 10 (G) and 9 (B. It must be something that Mom and Dad can also enjoy. We try to go into one or two weeks and the cost is irrelevant.
Thanks

The beach is fun, even in winter.
Virginia Beach and Ocean Beach are both within the travel spend for a fun holiday.
Hike through the mountains and enjoy the colors of autumn leaves.
Amish country near Lancaster, PA offers variety and scenery.
Hershey Park PA is a hit with your children.

Virginia offers many interesting possibilities.

Williamsburg is about 4 hours. Williamsburg is a small touristic and expensive, but worth at least once. And near the Jamestown settlement as historic, but much smaller and quieter.

Shenandoah Forest is located 3 hours. Skyline Drive is really beautiful. Many of the beautiful places for hiking, or just go and enjoy the scenery and wildlife.

At the upper edge of the Shenandoah Luray Caverns is that it is very interesting.

Charlottesville is a small city of Nice in 2 hours from Washington. Jefferson's Monticello home is here. It is a closed to vehicular traffic.

Virginia Beach is located near Williamsburg. This could be interesting in the off season, perhaps as a short one days, if you're here.

Richmond is also close to Williamsburg, about an hour, DC.

It could be the northern end of Skyline Drive, reaching approximately one hour (depending on traffic in the city) and drive 105 miles south of Waynesboro, VA. Offering breathtaking views, hiking, wilderness and solitude. There are few houses or stay in the camp on the road.
